2025 | Namur celebrates Francophonie Day at the Pont de Jambes

On 20 March, the City of Namur celebrated the International Day of La Francophonie, an opportunity to highlight the French language, multiculturalism and international solidarity.
For the occasion, the Pont de Jambes was decorated in the colours of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), symbolising the City’s commitment to the values of La Francophonie: fraternity, openness to others and diversity.
This year, the OIF’s theme was: “Peace Generation? Youth contributions towards a more peaceful world.” As highlighted by the AIMF – Association Internationale des Maires Francophones, La Francophonie goes beyond language: it embodies dialogue, solidarity and the promotion of diversity, values that Namur actively supports.
Since the adoption, on 30 June 2020, of a flag-display plan by the Municipal Executive, the City has been showcasing its international commitments. On the Pont de Jambes, the flags of several partner countries are regularly flown, and this display is reinforced during international events such as the International Day of La Francophonie, reflecting Namur’s openness and engagement on the international stage.
On a permanent basis, La Francophonie is also highlighted by the City of Namur at the Square de la Francophonie, at the foot of the “L’Enjambée” pedestrian and cycle footbridge.
