2026 | Diplomatic welcome day for Ambassadors Accredited to Belgium in Namur

On 27 May 2026, at the initiative of Mr Denis Mathen, Governor of the Province of Namur, an information and networking session was organised at the Governor’s Palace for Ambassadors accredited to Belgium.

This initiative brought together more than 50 ambassadors and diplomats representing numerous countries for a programme of exchanges and presentations by key institutional stakeholders involved in international relations across the province. Participants included representatives of the Governor of the Province of Namur, the City of Namur, the University of Namur, Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech – University of Liège, the Economic Development Agency of the Province of Namur (BEP), the Consular Corps of the Province of Namur, the Provincial Executive and AWEX.

On this occasion, Ms Charlotte Bazelaire, Acting Mayor of the City of Namur, presented the region’s key assets and attractiveness, the main priorities of local public policy, and the major strategic development projects currently underway. She also highlighted Namur’s ongoing urban transformation and its growing international profile.

The ambassadors and diplomats were then invited to discover the two universities located in the Province of Namur. The first visit took place at the University of Namur, where the institution’s academic mission and research activities were presented, underlining its central role within the higher education and scientific landscape.

The delegation then travelled to Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech – University of Liège, where participants were introduced to the activities of the Terra Research Centre and to the scientific projects being developed on the campus.

These visits provided ambassadors and diplomats with a first-hand insight into the richness of Namur’s academic and scientific ecosystem through the discovery of the Province’s two universities and their research activities.

The initiative helped to strengthen ties between diplomatic representatives accredited to Belgium and key stakeholders across the Namur region, while showcasing the Province’s strengths in higher education, research, innovation and international engagement.
