2025 | Participation of the City of Namur in the 45th Congress and General Assembly of the AIMF

In April 2025, Ms Charlotte Bazelaire, Acting Mayor of the City of Namur, represented the city at the 45th Congress of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) and its General Assembly, held in Hué. The Congress, dedicated to heritage, sustainable tourism and climate issues, also celebrated the 45th anniversary of the AIMF, while the General Assembly took place on 29 April. Both cities, Namur and Hué, are members of the AIMF and renewed their cooperation protocol in 2024 for the 2024-2029 period.
During this event, Ms Bazelaire spoke at the conference « Villes intelligentes, villes innovantes : regards croisés entre villes francophones », where she presented the NID (Smart and Sustainable Namur). She also participated in the session « Culture vivante : un atout pour le développement touristique », highlighting the importance of the living traditions of Namur (folklore, festivals, cultural events) as levers for sustainable, authentic and inclusive tourism.
These actions contributed to showcasing Namur’s strategy in sustainable urban development, living culture and international impact, in line with the city’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030.
On the occasion of the Congress, Ms Bazelaire met with several key partners: Mr Vo Le Nhat, Chairman of the People’s Council of Phu Xuan district, and Mr Phan Thien Dinh, Chairman of the People’s Council of the City of Hué, both previously received in Namur in 2022 and 2024 respectively. She also met with the new Mayor of Hué, Mr Nguyễn Văn Phương, host of the Congress.
These meetings strengthened ties with local stakeholders and allowed the sharing Namur’s initiatives and best practices within the AIMF international network.
