Presentation of the work

The City of Namur has gifted the City of Quebec a sculpture entitled ‘Fleuves’, illustrating the meeting of the rivers Saint-Laurent (Quebec) and Meuse (Namur). Shaped like a ‘Y’, the sculpture represents the original courses of the two rivers, interconected by layered strata. A stream of light runs through the sculpture, translating the speed of the river currents into light using real data over three years, compressed into a three-minute loop (Fleuves).

The ‘amoures’ poem

In addition, authors Vanessa Bell and Perrine Estienne co-wrote the poem ‘amoures’, the result of a cross-residency between the Maison de la Littérature in Quebec City and the Maison de la Poésie in Namur. The poem explores the themes of connection and distance, poetically capturing the relationship between the two cities (Fleuves).

This initiative underlines the importance of cultural cooperation between the two cities and highlights their membership of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, with Quebec recognised for Literature and Namur for Media Arts(Fleuves)
