Description
Porto-Novo is a port city and the capital of Benin, in West Africa.
Porto-Novo and Namur, both members of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), are strengthening their ties through cooperation between local authorities and the sharing of experience in public policy.
In this context, the two cities co-chair the “Social Precarity” Commission, whose inaugural meeting was held in Namur on 9 June 2026, on the occasion of the 107th meeting of the AIMF Bureau. In 2026, cooperation between the two cities was also formalised through the Municipal International Cooperation Programme (PCIC), coordinated by the Union of Cities and Municipalities of Wallonia (UVCW) and funded by Belgian Development Cooperation. Namur and Porto-Novo, respectively a regional capital and a national capital, are also members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, in the fields of Media Arts for Namur and Crafts and Folk Art for Porto-Novo.
