Description

The City of Terrebonne, located north of Montreal in the province of Quebec, has a similar population to the City of Namur. Like Namur, Terrebonne is a member of the Association Internationale des Maires Francophones (AIMF).

The two cities met in August 2023 during a mission to Quebec organised by the City of Namur, with the University of Namur and the Province’s Economic Office also taking part.

Exchanges between Namur and Terrebonne bore fruit, resulting in the signing of a collaboration protocol on November 28, 2023 in the Walloon capital, which commits the two cities to three priority areas:

  1. Social development is a key area of focus, aimed at promoting policies and programmes that support the integration of diverse communities.
  2. Strengthening links between the universities located in their respective territories, particularly through the mobility of students, researchers and professors. The Université de Namur has already signed an agreement with the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.
  3. Sustainable development and the circular economy will be at the heart of discussions, in addition to exchanges on green economic parks, such as the Parc Ecolys in Namur and the Urbanova eco-responsible project in Terrebonne.

This protocol is also signed by partners from both entities, according to the themes developed, which is a first in this type of bilateral relationship. Namur’s partners are the Université de Namur and the Bureau Économique de la Province de Namur. Terrebonne’s partners are the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières and the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie Les Moulins.
